Wireless Settings Do Not Match Network Requirements

As easy as networking Windows Vista and Windows 7 has become, there are times when connectivity problems are encountered that make you scratch your head. One such problem is trying to connect a new computer or a new network adapter to an existing network. The process is usually flawless and automatic, but you may encounter the error “The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network” even though you have the correct password and a strong connection.

Network connection error

Change Network Settings

There are a couple of quick options you can try to resolve the error “The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network.”

Changing the wirless security settings

Change wireless security settings

One option is to click on the wireless network settings icon near the clock. Right-click your network and then select Properties. In the figure above you can see the settings under the security tab. Change them to match your network type. If your router’s security is set to WPA-Personal, make sure your security type is set to match. If your encryption is set to AES, try changing it to TKIP. Lastly, make sure your network security key (network password) is typed in correctly.

Remove your wireless network

Another option is to correct the “The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network” error is to remove the network from under the Manage Wireless Networks option located in the Network and Sharing Center of the Control Panel. Once you remove the network, you can click on the Change Adapter Settings in the left side menu of the Network and Sharing Center. Right-click the wireless adapter and then click the Connect / Disconnect option. You should see your router or access point listed. Click “Connect” and then type in the password for your network.

Hi,

Got a strange twist on this:
My Brother-in-law has this problem. WPA2- configuration on a new machine running windows 7 64bit (utilising wireless USB connection). However, his connection is intermittent.

Strange thing is, I've checked the information presented from a mouse-over of the network connection info (from system tray). When it's connected and working fine it shows as wireless N with 3 bars, but when it drops off with the aforementioned error it states it as wireless G with a red "X". Don't understand how it can connect fine one minute then drop off the next with this message.

I've checked the settings and compared it to the windows 7 laptop he has and it's identical. I've even tried to set up the connection on my windows 7 64bit laptop and that works fine. I've deleted and recreated the connection a number of times but still the same problem.

Any ideas?

Here is my situation and temp solution.

When I am connected with my desktop (win vista) and my laptop (win 7) both using wireless N, everything is fine and the connection drops. I run a small rental and have had this problem for some time and have asked guests here about it as well. I don't know if you share your network with others, so maybe this doesn't apply at all. I have found that when users are connected with Wireless G it will significantly slow my speeds down, that is also when I will experience intermittent drops. To remedy, when I am viewing available connections, it will have a red X next to it. I push the refresh button and then it reconnects.

not much help I know, but better than nothing.
